Message from the DC Public Education Fund Executive Director on the Resignation of Chancellor Rhee
October 13, 2010- Today Chairman Gray and Chancellor Rhee announced their mutual decision that Chancellor Rhee will step down as Chancellor of DC Public Schools. Deputy Chancellor Kaya Henderson will be named Acting Chancellor. Chairman Gray has invited Chancellor Rhee’s senior staff to stay on and continue the important work they began three years ago, indicating his commitment to continued and uninterrupted reform.
I am confident that with Kaya Henderson at the helm, the growing force of highly effective educators in the schools, and a smart and supportive community, we will continue to keep things moving in the right direction for the kids of Washington, DC.
I hope to see you in a few weeks at the first annual Standing Ovation for DC Teachers. Together we can let our teachers and community know that effective teaching and high student achievement continue to be a priority for all of us, and that we will continue to honor them far into the future.
