National Teacher Appreciation Week
May 3, 2010 -- May 3-7 is National Teacher Appreciation Week. As DCPEF works with DCPS to support programs that are improving outcomes for the district’s 45,000 public school students, we would like to take a moment to say a big thank you to the incredible teachers who are working hard every day to make this goal a reality.
As Chancellor Rhee wrote in a letter to DCPS teachers this week, teaching is “some of the hardest and most important work in this country.” Nowhere is this statement truer than in our nation’s capital, where teachers have played a primary role in raising student achievement and narrowing the achievement gap in recent years.
DCPEF proudly supports teachers in their continued pursuit of educational excellence through a variety of programs, such as…
- DC Catalyst Project: DCPEF is providing professional development, materials, and central office support to help transform schools through themes integration.
- Reggio Emilia Program at Scott Montgomery: DCPEF is supplying materials and professional development to support implementation of an early childhood program encouraging learning through exploration, art, and self-directed play.
- IMPACT: DCPEF is providing training and other resources to support implementation of this pioneering school-based personnel evaluation system, which provides school-based personnel with a clear understanding of what defines excellence in their work along with constructive and data-based feedback about their performance and a variety of supports to increase their effectiveness.
- Anchor Assignments: DCPEF is providing materials and other resources to expand this model of planning, grading, and reflecting on common assessments to more schools across the District.
- Data and Professional Development Platform: DCPEF is providing technical and consulting services to help create a self-service, teacher-centered web platform that will provide teachers and other school staff with targeted and user-friendly tools to improve their skills.
