2012 Art Night: A Celebration of Student Artists

On June 7, 2012, DC Public Education Fund's Young Professionals Committee hosts the third annual Art Night: A Celebration of Student Artists.

Art Night is a special evening, inviting student artists from four DC Catalyst Arts Integration Schools to display their best work in the gallery of Mandarin Oriental Washington, D.C. The evening would not be possible without the generous support of Education Fund board member and ObjectVideo CEO Raul Fernandez, and Mandarin Oriental Washington, D.C. Guests will enjoy an opportunity to speak with the student artists, bid on art work, and network with other young professionals against the stunning back-drop of the Tidal Basin.

The DC Catalyst Project is an innovative school improvement strategy, designed to accelerate student achievement and engagement by organizing schools around a central theme to improve overall teaching, learning, and community involvement. Beginning in 2009, 13 elementary, middle, and K-8 schools across seven of the District’s eight wards were selected to participate in the planning year for the Catalyst Project. The schools were given the option of applying for one of three Catalyst Project themes: STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), World Cultures, and Arts Integration. The four Arts Integration schools help students master core subjects using creative and expressive learning strategies that incorporate the performing and fine arts, emphasizing imagination and creative expression. The pieces selected for Art Night were chosen by teachers, principals, and Catalyst Project coordinators at each school. Student art work will remain on display at Mandarin Oriental until mid-July.

Tickets for Art Night range from $35 for individual entry  to $1,000 for guests wishing to sponsor a student artist's family members to attend the reception.
