Grammy Award-winner John Legend, Emmy Award-winner Alfre Woodard, and Washington Redskin Rocky McIntosh are among the diverse group of award presenters at the second annual A Standing Ovation for DC Teachers. WASHINGTON, D.C.: The DC Public Education Fund (“the Education Fund”) today announced the award presenters appearing at the second annual A Standing Ovation for DC Teachers. The diverse group of presenters reflects the overwhelming community support for DC Public Schools’ highly effective educators.
“In our second year of Standing Ovation, it is amazing to have such an incredibly accomplished group of individuals supporting our highly effective public school teachers and principals,” said Cate Swinburn, Executive Director of the DC Public Education Fund, “By participating in this event, these remarkable individuals are showing the DC community and the nation that education is the top priority in our city.”
Standing Ovation will take place on Sept. 19, 2011, in the Concert Hall at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Presenters include:
Standing Ovation is hosted by DC Public Education Fund. Proceeds from the event benefit DC Public Education Fund efforts to advance excellence in DC Public Schools.
“When I visit schools throughout the District, I am constantly amazed at the rich diversity of our teaching corps,” said Chancellor Kaya Henderson. “These outstanding educators - who we will honor Monday night at A Standing Ovation for DC Teachers - represent a diverse array of subject areas, grade levels, background and experience, and truly exemplify the best of what DCPS has to offer the children of this city.”
The mission of the Education Fund is to advance excellence in DC Public Schools through private philanthropy. The Education Fund works closely with the school system’s leadership to support effective teaching and high student achievement in every classroom, in every school, in DC Public Schools. Since November 2007, the Education Fund has secured over $80 million in commitments on behalf of DC Public Schools from a diverse array of supporters, more than 80% of whom are based in the DC metro area.
