“A Catalyst School program like this wouldn’t be possible without startup funds from the Education Fund. When we started, our school had numerous classrooms with few resources to help teachers teach world cultures.”

Over the past three years, the Education Fund has been proud to play a role in supporting and investing in our city’s public education transformation to ensure that there are great teachers in every classroom, effective schools for every student, and a system where everyone is accountable to students, parents, and taxpayers.

Local and national funders have recognized the unprecedented momentum for improvement here in the District of Columbia and have generously provided substantial support. Nearly $80 million has been committed to date from a diverse array of supporters, nearly 90 percent of whom are based in the DC metropolitan region.

We at the Education Fund take great pride in the impact our investments are having in the classrooms of DCPS. By the end of the 2009-2010 school year, our investments were affecting schools in every corner of the city.

See case studies showing the impact our funders’ investments are making:

  • Making an IMPACT on Student Achievement: With initial funding from Fight For Children, the Education Fund provided important financial support for IMPACT, DC Public Schools’ groundbreaking assessment system for school-based personnel. Find out more.
  • Creating the Catalyst for Improved Performance: The DC Catalyst Project, with initial support of more than $1 million from several funders, helps schools implement and grow programs organized around themes. After a successful planning year with 13 schools, the project is now moving into the implementation phase. Find out more.
  • Building Capacity To Use Data: To ensure that DCPS educators have the data to make informed decisions and the tools to translate data into action, Carnegie Corporation of New York provided critical funding to help the DC Public Schools Office of Data and Accountability build its own staff capacity.
